Today it was all about Alice

(well and a little bit about the red queen)

Alice in progress

I Have found myself digressing somewhat from my usual subject matter, inspired by nomadic people, vintage gypsy photographs and the like today. I have been a lover of all things wonderland for years, happening upon various publications with different illustrations as well as the original Tenniel ones.
So when I rummaged around my paper stashes and became inspired by cards, photos of watches, and images of the original Alice, Alice Liddell, I simply had to produce some Alice inspired artwork.

Alice has been collaged with papers including images of vintage rulers, text from original Alice book pages and images of Alice characters taken from an old theatre programme.

Spray paint and stencils were used to create a layer to paint on. I also discovered the perfect paper for the vintage tea cup: paper napkins

A few years ago I dressed up as the red queen for a festival, channelling Tim Burton's interpretation in the costume. So when I decided to paint her I had to depict her in this style.
Here she is in progress, with collaged layers, spray paint and the first layers of paint down.

And here's a close up of her dress, with Alice book pages peeping through. You can also spot Alice Liddell reclining on a chaise longue hiding in the red queens bodice.
